Understanding Informational Visualization And Abstract Data

By Diane Williams

Individuals working in the field of abstract data and data analysis often have to review a cumbersome amount of data at one time. Often known as informational visualization, the process is basically to provide multiple amounts of data at a time whether through flow charts, columns or tables. As the data includes non-numerical and numerical data, it can often be difficult to display the information in ways which are easy to read.

A new field in comparison to documentation development, quality assurance, documentation control and specialization, data analysis involves several different areas. For example, the process is now related to computer science, graphics, visual design, psychology, business methods and others. In most cases, companies and industries prefer to hire individuals with a college degree or experience equal that of an Associates or Bachelor's degree.

Basically, this new area is framed in a way that provides a visual aspect that allows users to view large amounts of information at one time. Similar to flow charts and graphs, it allows for the conveying of information in new and exciting ways. Often known as data analysis, the process is indispensable when it comes to trouble shooting and problem solving in the industry.

The basic aspect of data analysis includes machine learning, data mining, plotting, tree maps, scatter plots, all of which are a part of visualization. While this is the case, this new aspect of data analysis also allows for the discovery of unstructured insights which are only limited by human creativity, imagination and understanding. As such, while there have been a number of upgrades to the application, human knowledge and understanding are still integral to the overall success of the application.

One of the best aspects of data analysis and visualization is that there is no special training required. While this is the case, most often those working in these positions are college graduates. Whereas, there are also many companies which will offer tuition reimbursement for those wishing to start or complete work towards a certificate or degree related to the field.

The application has a rather brief history considering the impact it has made on Internet Technology and various industries. While this is the case, it was not until only a few decades ago, sound cards and video graphics were made available for purchase. After which, the application become associated with the scientific community thus merging Information Technology and Data Analysis as both were considered proprietary information.

Computer graphics and data analysis have now become a necessity in not only the scientific field but in many others. In fact, there are now a number of conventions and conferences which have workshops, panels, career opportunities and forums related solely to data analysis. Whereas, data analysis, graphic development and design have become a mainstay in the field of Internet Technology.

Once data analysis and visualization became an active part of the scientific community, it later spread to the areas of manufacturing, production control, market studies, health care, information graphics, data mining and finance. As a result, there will most likely be a number of new Information Technology jobs becoming available sometime in the near future. While this is the case, it is often advised that those looking for a career in Internet Technology obtain a degree with a major or minor in data analysis and graphics.
