Different Types Of ID Coders

By Keren Kipfer

Number markings on the labels of products can help in traceability of these products, and this is used in a number of industries particularly in all types of foods and many beverages. There are special machines that help in this process adding these codes and identification numbers. The objective of this ID technology is to provide data and information and make tracing of products easy in case of possible future concerns. The printers that apply these IDs onto product packages are known sometimes as ID coders and sometimes as ID printers. Manufacturers can have choices of these machine types because there several to choose.

These id coders are machines that print information on the products such as production batch information and expiration dates, serial numbers, and other data that helps in the identification of products. These machine coders can print data and numbers on any surface type like cardboard boxes, plastic, glass and other types of packaging materials. Printing done by these machine coders and printers is fast and the ink dry quickly. With these numbers on the labels, customers and producers can have ease in tracing in case there are concerns regarding the products or they simple need to know by what date their food should be consumed.

One type of coder would be a DOD machine type, which stands for drop on demand. There are also CIJ coders, and these initials simply mean continuous ink jet. Printing the number marks on the product labels are done with the steady stream of small ink droplets of the CIJ printer. The unused inks in CIJ printing are actually recycled back into the machine and this is reused in the subsequent printings. A print head with open nozzles is used in DOD printers and in the printing process an electrical pulse is used. Buyers can choose which printer type will benefit him most because there are individual advantages and disadvantages with both of these machine types.

The CIJ technology as well as CIJ printers has been in existence for years already while the DOD type is newer and a bit more modern. The DOD machine printer and coder produces the high resolution prints which companies might need. With the CIJ type, ink is continuously circulated in the printer and with the DOD, ink is only used when needed in printing. The DOD printer machine technology is much simpler but the fine nozzles of the DOD print head meanwhile are more demanding in the design process, which can increase the costs of purchasing this type of id printer.

Id printer and coder machines are great to possess but there is also an alternative, buying the refurnished machines, and still one can expect great results. When one buys the refurbished machines, a lot of savings can be derived. Refurbished printer and coder machines like Domino coders, Willet coders, Video Jet coders, and other machine brands are available from these companies. Buyers can expect a lot of savings from these refurbished machines and they also get great printing results. Companies that sell these refurbished machines not only sell the products but also repair coder machines.

There are ID printing products companies, like PrintJet.net that sell refurbished machines and also sell generic ink, on top of the availability of refurbished machines. They have inks like Maxima ink, Domino ink, Videojet ink, Imaje ink and other ink brands. These id product companies carefully formulate their inks so that the end result is as high in quality as purchasing ink directly from the coder manufacturer, except, of course, the cost is much lower with generic inks.
