By Edna Booker

A crime is one of the common social problems that have been subjected to much explanation. After a crime has been committed the process of getting to know the perpetrators of the crime, the victim among other crucial information involves a lot of CID method. Sometimes these methods bear fruits and the suspect is arrested, charged and convicted, but some criminals are very smart in masking their crimes, making it hard for investigators to unravel the details of the crime.

The basis of the investigation process is analyzing the crime scene. This is the location where the crime took place. Some items of information that helps in explaining what happened in a crime scene includes whether something is missing, whether something was introduced among other inconsistencies. There several ways of storing the evidence collected from a crime scene.

Crime scene need to be handled with care and thus investigation methods call upon investigators to wear protective clothing and gloves to avoid getting contaminated or contaminating the scene. Also, items removed from the scene that give information on what may have happened also called evidence are properly stored. The method used to store the evidence depends on the type of evidence.

The other method used most often is the interview. However, there are many rules governing how interview is to be conducted and they differ from one jurisdiction to another. If these rules are not adhered to it may render the investigation illegal and thus the suspect, though the facts show that they are guilty legally they may not be found guilty.

There are simple as well as advanced techniques. The simple interview method involves the normal question by the investigators to collect new facts about a crime or to confirm the information they already have. There are few rules governing simple interview such as the need for investigators to avoid open-ended questions and informing the interviewer about their rights. However, advanced or complex methods involve the use of technology and experts to get information from the suspect or witness of a crime. Some of these methods include hypnosis and cognitive interview. Though these methods are relatively new there are so many controversies surrounding their effectiveness.

The other method is the use of undercover investigators. These are the detectives who take up roles as a different person in order to collect information to be used in the court of law. Even though this is one of the most effective methods professionals detectives are needed to ensure that all rules are followed to ensure admissibility of evidence.

The other method is the use of technology such as the closed circuit television. These televisions have the ability to capture the motion as well as the audio of the suspects and to record this information for later retrievals. There are a variety of rules governing the use of CCTV due to the high possibility of them infringing on people rights. Surveillance is another crucial investigation method where a trained investigator trails the suspects to as they plan, commit or even after they have committed the crime.

Lastly, there is no specific method for a certain type of investigation and mostly several methods are used at a go. However, factors such as the type of investigation and the possible use of the obtained information guides in the choice of the method used. Some methods such as interviews are likely to be present in all of types of investigation.
