The Responsibilities And Characteristics Of A Scrum Instructor

By Catherine Burns

Project managers usually have a lot of work as they oversee the project. However, they cannot effectively manage the project on their own without the help of other stakeholders. An important stakeholder is the CSM. This is a professional whose primary work is ensuring that the team has the right motivation to handle the tasks ahead of them. The professional sees to it that the team is equipped with the proper knowledge to run the project. There are several roles and characteristics of that a Scrum Instructor should have. Some of them are listed below.

This professional must be collaborative. He should, therefore, form all the necessary links between the project teams and the product owner. The owner of the project will drive the team towards the delivery of the goals. On the other hand, the CSM will nurture the team and create a successful collaboration to meet the goals of the client. This professional thus encourages the teams and makes critical decisions.

This expert is usually a member of the team. He is therefore not a manager of any project. He works to facilitate the team at all times. He should be a listening person and be able to identify the challenges that the team might be facing. Besides, he should take note of the activities that the team does every day. He should also be able to determine how each member contributes to the project.

This expert should also be very knowledgeable. He should thus be able to resolve impediments and prevent any future problems. To do this, the professional should have an in-depth knowledge of the product. He also ensures that the team is proactive so that any future challenges and roadblocks can be avoided. H should thus be able to ensure that the team is productive.

This person should have an influential character. He should be a person that the team wants to emulate. This is because he is a leader of the team and the first person any member of the team approaches in case of problems. With the right influence on people, the professional can easily encourage them to work hard so that the visions and goals of the project are achieved.

The roles of this professional are also many and are essential in any project. For instance, it is the responsibility of the CSM to coach teams about the project practices. He also creates teams and ensures that they are integrated into the organization. He ensures that the team members know the vision of the project and ensures that communication is effective.

This expert also holds daily meetings with the team members to catch up on the activities of the day. In case any problems may have arisen during the work, the CSM addresses them in these meetings. He also sees to it that the team gets any new information from above.

The expert also ensures that he/she has introduced modern engineering practices that will make the project a success. He will teach the team to use automated builds to improve project efficiency. He will thus make sure that the team knows how to use modern technologies to deliver the desired results.
