Direct TV Utah Offers Diverse Programming

By Tanisha Berg

Television and audio services are provided to DirecTV subscribers through certain satellite transmissions. Many different media outlets are available through Direct TV Utah services such as local television stations, broadcast networks, paid subscriptions services, satellite radio, and other private video services. The subscribers have access to all these different channels, making DirecTV quite the competition to cable and other satellite television companies.

Though first generation antennas were a few meters long, subscribers nowadays are able to use much smaller reception antennas to access their channels. Antenna technology has advances to create much smaller sized antennas across all industries and applications, including fractal antennas. For DirecTV, signal receiving equipment include the satellite dish and integrated receiver and decoder. An access card is also required, which is needed to operate the receiver and decoder.

Different types of packages require extra monthly fees, and are optional by choice of the consumer. A subscriber might want the option to use a DVR or have more receivers. They might also want access to high definition or premium channels, pay-per-view events, or video-on-demand movies. Another option offered with DirecTV is the monthly protection plan, which covers various repairs and replacements of the consumer-leased equipment. This protection covers damages from power surges, lightening, floods, etc.

Various cable networks, motion picture film distributors, sports leagues, etc. Are paid by DirecTV and agree on a contract to allow access to their programming and the right to distribute all programs to DirecTV subscribers. These are sent to broadcast centers in Los Angeles and Castle Rock, Colorado; then are digitized and compressed into signals. They are also encrypted so that only DirecTV can access the information, and are sent to satellites in geostationary orbit. The resulting signals are then distributed to all DirecTV subscribers through these satellites.

Not only does DirecTV serve residential homes; but also offers its services to restaurants, hotels, bars, dorms, hospitals, etc. These establishments subscribe to a specific business service that DirecTV offers. DirecTV Mobile is also available for anyone who wants service in their cars, boats, or RVs. Nowadays, even aircrafts have access to DirecTV channels through the cooperation between DirecTV Airborne and Boeing's Connexion.

You can choose to install the satellite service yourself if you'd prefer, even though DirecTV will usually offer a free installation. If you choose to do it yourself, you'll be given a dish antenna installation kit and a satellite receiver box. Keep in mind, however, that the installation instructions can vary based on what type of dish you have. Also, you might need to check up on your home owner's association manual or contact the offices for permission to install the dish on your roof.

Start with connecting your TV to the receiver box with the cable connection of your choice. You might choose from HDMI, component, S-video, composite, and coaxial; all depending on what receiver box you're leased. After your TV set is connected, give DirecTV a call to activate your subscription.

Your TV has to be tuned to the specific channel that DirecTV's signals can access. If you don't get the signal right away, use your remote to access the main menu. You'll be provided the exact coordinates to set the satellite dish at for the best reception possible. The choices are azimuth, side direction, elevation, and vertical angle.
